No photos of my pond project. This week I am volunteering as an island warden on the newly created island in the Marker Wadden in the Netherlands. Less than 10 years ago it was still entirely water, and now 10,000 hectares of land and marshland have been created as a nature reserve and part of Nieuwland National Park. During the day we are responsible for the island and the visitors, but in the mornings and evenings I have time to explore and enjoy. The Marker Wadden is a paradise for birdwatchers... Although I am not a birder or a real bird photographer myself, I thoroughly enjoy the variety of species and the enormous number of birds. This pied avocet is watching as a sand martin flies by...
