Na mijn afgelopen Schiermonnikoog reis, Weerribben opdrachten en het afronden van een aantal reviews heb ik eindelijk tijd om terug te keren in gedachten bij de Arctic Awakens tour die Finn Snaterse en ik samen hebben ondernomen begin juni als o.a. voorbereiding op een nieuwe reis (2020?).

Juni is de maand waarin in het hoge noorden de vogels bijeen komen op de broedplaatsen en vogelrotsen. Op Varanger is één van de meest spectaculaire rotsen te vinden met kuifaalscholvers, zeealken, papegaaiduikers, drieteenmeeuwen en zeekoeten. Hoewel menigeen afkomt op de kleurrijk en koddie papegaaiduikers hebben de zeekoeten mijn hart gestolen. Hun strakke vorm met bijna pinguinachtig voorkomen steekt prachtig af als silhouet tegen de zee waarin alle soortgenoten rustig ronddobberen. En met wat geduld zijn ze ook dicht te benaderen...

~ The gate to the universe ~

One of the most spectacular moments at our Arctic Aurora Chase 2020 photo expedition was the night in the far North, just 85 km South of Northcape. We just survived a snowstorm adventure where I got stuck on an icy coastal road and only with the help of a big snow shovel got loose. When I got away... Finn got stuck as well and the snow shovel had to return to pick him as well, while I had to drive over a stormy road full of snow dunes.

But the reward was terrific. We found a good spot. While we were digging out the parking lot for the campervans, the show started. Hours of clear sky and big shows of Northern lights when all of a sudden this big twirl appeared. We were able to see both the green and pink colours as this 'gate to the universe' opened and closed within a few minutes. As we were allowed to travel back and forward in time, to see our past and future... we only had to enter the gate.

I took this picture with the increddible #Sigma 14mm f/1.8 ART lens at 1", f/2.0 and ISO3200. This is by far the best Aurora lens!!!
