First night in Greenland...
After a journey of two days, we arrived yesterday in Nûk on the west coast of Greenland. It is a great adventure and a chance to experience this large, remote, desolate and vast landscape. On the other hand, it is strange to be in the situation where you cannot leave the city (there is literally no way out) and therefore it is more difficult than usual to find good places, e.g. for northern lights. When we left the university from the opening of the Greenlandic Science Week (we are invited to give a presentation there) it was before 8 pm and the aurora was already over our heads and visible in… the south. The geographic location of Greenland is so different regadering the aurora accourding to what we are used to in Finland and Norway that we spend most of the evening trying to understand what we witnessed. And what a show! We finally managed to find a operfect spot with view to the West and enjoyed our first evening in Greenland.
